For my cinematography class at SCAD, I remade the opening title of David Fincher’s 2007 film Zodiac. Inspired by Fincher’s Se7en, particularly its use of flash frames and jump cuts to control pacing and build tension, I created a distinct visual and tonal identity aligned with Zodiac’s atmosphere.
The original opening overlooked the Zodiac Killer composing his infamous letters, central to the story. I addressed this by foregrounding him writing to the San Francisco Chronicle, alongside other unsettling actions, creating a more immersive and story-driven introduction. I selected Albert King’s 1967 blues classic Born Under a Bad Sign as the soundtrack; its moody atmosphere and astrological references reinforce both the period and tone.
