For my MFA Thesis at SCAD, I was very interested in the integration of motion graphics into theme parks and themed experiences. How can motion graphics enhance the way guests use their bodies to interact with media and its surrounding environment? Can motion graphics transform spaces and lead to more immersive experiences?
This thesis explores the use of motion graphics as an engaging storytelling component in theme parks, altering the way guests explore and interact with the space and media by granting them bodily autonomy and control over the modulation of their experience. How guests interact with both the spaces they inhabit and the media itself, depends on the framing and timing of the media via an adapted concept of the traditional cinematic proscenium. This autonomy and sense of control ultimately lead to a more immersive, imaginative, and intimate experience for guests.
This thesis uses Augmented Reality (Adobe Aero) to enhance the guest experience for guests playing a game of Clue in a themed environment. The QR codes in the video are live links; open the live link to test out the Augmented Reality experience for yourself!
